NI compatibility with Intel 64 bit processor on 32 bit windows.

I know that NI doesn't officially support 64 bit windows versions, but what about Intel 64 bit processors with 32 bit versions of windows? I Have read http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/C4EC0C87B6D70AA886256E61006568C8 and it says 32 bit windows should work on AMD 64 bit processors but what about Intel, I'm looking to buy a xeon dual core.

Thanks

I'm writing this on a Core 2 based Xeon runing XP Pro, and labview runs fine on it. The Core 2 Xeons are the 51xx series and are sometimes reffered to as woodcrest. They are much, much better than the older Xeons. So try to get one of those. Note clock speed differences between the older and newer models are meaningless.

Also the quad cores are supposed to come out before next year.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the reply, this is comforting. I will be getting the 5160, I can't believe it has a 1333 Mhz FSB. The last time I was buying a computer for personal use the FSB was 400 Mhz.

I think my main concern is with IMAQ and my framegrabbing card. Can any NI folk provide any insight?

Hi kirkland4,

I hope you're doing well.  You're exactly correct in that it isn't officially supported or tested, but we do have guesses as to whether certain software and hardware will work or not.  This KnowledgeBase discusses this a bit, and it looks like IMAQ, while not tested, is not expected to work.  If other people have first hand experience with this, feel free to chime in!

Thaison,

Thanks for replying. I apologize for being repetitive, but can I just confirm your statement? IMAQ is not expected to work on 64 bit Intel processors even if NOT using 64 bit Windows software? (IE 32 bit)?

Kirkland4-

Thaison has asked my response as a second opinion.  With this issue it is all in the wording. IMAQ hardware and software has not been fully tested on 64 bit computers; either in 32 or 64 bit OS.  Therefore, we are hesitant to say whether it will work or not.  At this time our official answer is that it is not supported.  This does not mean that it will not work. It simply means that we have no official answer and at this time is unsupported.  Personally, I think that as long as you are using a 32 bit OS it should work.  Once again, that is not official merely my thoughts.  I hope this helps.
