NIDAQmx base linux install help

hi

i'm trying to install NIDAQmx base v1.5 in RH fedora core 4.

FC4 does not automatically install the kernel sources/headers. so i downloaded those and followed the instructions to get them into the /usr/src/linux-2.6.11 directory. i did a kernel build and compiled + installed the modules using the make modules/make modules_install. i rebooted with the new kernel so that all the environment variables are in correct. i was not too attentive to the kernel option when i compiled but it booted up and linux ran. now in the updateNIDrivers script the make install line creates compile time errors which cause the instalation to fail. i have no idea how to fix this. any ideas?

is there a kernel option i missed? does NI KAL not work with FC4 only with FC3? or do i have to get RH Ent Linux WS3 instead?

is there anyway to install the kernel sources into the default directory and not require a kernel build.

thanks.

i got everything to install on RH linux 8.0.  i can see the M series board using the lqstat utility. but when i start labivew the NIDAQ vi's are not on the function palette?

i would still like to get it working on FC4 if possible. if not how do i get the DAQ functions to get loaded into LV?

any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Evren,

Unfortunately, KAL will not build on FC4. Red Hat changed too much in the 2.6 kernel. This also applies to Red Hat Enterprise WS 4. The latest version of Red Hat Linux we officially support is WS 3. I'm glad you were able to get it to work in 8.0. I would stick with that. To get your VIs to show up in LabVIEW, try reinstalling the driver (I'm assuming you installed the driver before LabVIEW). Please let me know if you need any more help.

i actually installed LV first then put in NIDAQmx base. then i uninstalled LV and installed it again no luck. maybe i'll start over and see if it works. i can't seem to find where the vi's are in the /usr/local/natinst/nidaqmxbase directory or anywhere else for that matter. it's almost like they were not installed from the rpm. is there someplace that the vi's are kept or do they install directly to the /usr/local/lv71/vi.lib directory?

i'll play around some more with that. if you have any suggestions on how to check that the install went okay please let me know.

thanks for the info on FC4. that helps a lot. i may try to get FC3 or WS 3 instead. or stick with RH8.

Evren,

I'm not really sure what is going on here. Perhaps removing DAQmx Base and then reinstalling it will fix the problem. If the installation succeeds, the VIs should be located in the /usr/local/lv71/vi.lib/_DAQmxBase/ directory.

Hope this helps,
