NIMax getting windows error; shutdown at startup

I am using Labview 7.0 express to run a thermogravimetric balance system.  The VI I have been using has been running fine for months, as well as LabView on the Windows XP SP2 system as well.

However, without making any changes to VIs or system settings, upon a restart Windows is giving me an error with NIMax that is forcing Max to shutdown upon startup of the system.  Trying to launch LabView or any of the VIs gives the same problem, with all sorts of DAQ errors (as Max is not running).  As stated above, no changes were made to a system that was running perfectly fine; the computer was restarted, and this error popped up.

I have restarted the system and all of my instrumentation many times over, with the same problem arising.  What would be the recommended solution?  I would like to avoid reinstalling LabView, but could if absolutely necessary.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Hopefully, we can avoid re-installing LabVIEW. It sounds like something is wrong with your DAQ driver. I'm not sure if you're using DAQmx or Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy), but I want you to start troubleshooting this by repairing the driver. You can do this by going to control panel >> add/remove programs >> National Instruments Software >> Click "change" >> select the DAQ driver and click "repair." Please try this and let me know if everything begins to work properly again.

Regards,
Hal L.

Hal,

I went ahead and did the repair, and things are working really well now.  I have been using LabView for years, but mostly with the Traditional NI-DAQ interface.  This is our first mx system, and it has given us a number of problems...I guess I am just used to more direct interface with the system than the "assistants".  Anyway, thanks for the tip, it saved us a lot of time (compared to reinstalling LabView).
