NIMax has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I'm running LabView 7.1 on a Win XP machine.  I started using LabView about a month ago to collect data with my pci-6014.  Everything went fine until this morning, when I turned on the computer and immediately got an error message saying "NIMax has encountered a problem and needs to close. "  It came up several more times in rapid succession, and comes up several times when I tried to run my previously working Labview vi.  It happens every time I start up windows, and my vi is unusable.  I did a forum search, and found this thread: http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=232&message.id=1859&query.id=28328#M1859
but the suggestions therein haven't helped me fix the problem

Things I've tried: reinstalling the latest version of NI-IMAQ, unplugging the network cable.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Also, reinstalling all of Labview will be a pain because the discs are kept by the department software admin, who is on vacation.

Thanks.

If I ignore the NImax errors and keep trying to run the vi, eventually I get the following DAQmx error:

Error -2147220727 occurred at DAQmx Create Task.vi
This error code is undefined. No one has provided a description for this code, or you might have wired a number that is not an error code to the error code input.

Hello Ian_runs,

Have you tried uninstalling the NI MAX program?  Or just tried to reinstall the drivers?  I would reccomend uninstalling NI MAX (this will require you to uninstall other software as well) through the control panel and reinstalling the drivers.  Where there any changes in the system (new software, new hardware, etc.) when it started displaying this behavior?  It sounds like the installation got corrupted.
