Newbie Serial-RS232 question--EASY!

This is probably a simple matter, but any help is appreciated...
I'm looking for a sample VI that can evaluate an RS232 or ASCII signal.
I have an inexpensive Toshiba laptop with a standard 9-pin serial port,
and am running Student Ed. 5.0, which seems pretty complete. Also
info on declaring device and/or port number is appreciated.

Try the "serial" VIs .

For RS232/V34 or for direct access?
For RS232: "serial"
For direct access: "port IO" VIs
