OPENING VI IN DIFFERENT VERSION

Hi,

I dont understand something about labview. I am trying to open a vi that was written in verion 6. with version 6.1 and it doesnt open up. Shouldnt the new version automatically upgrade the vi written in older version. Why is this incompatibility????
Can someone help me in this regard as if there is any way to open the older version vi's to newer version?

Thanks

Are you getting an error, because LabVIEW 6.1 should be able to open a LabVIEW 6.0 VI.  6.0 couldn't open a 6.1 VI however.

Is the VI opening its just broken now, because you may be missing some driver VIs?

Attach the VI or the LLB and we can try to open it and save it in 6.1 for you.

Do you get any kind of error message when you try to open it? The only times I've seen where a new version cannot open an older VI is if the old VI is really old (like 3.x), or the old VI was saved without a diagram. In the first case, you'll get a message stating the old VI is to old to convert directly. In the last case you'll get a message that you can't open it because the VI has no diagram. If the VI has no diagram, there is absolutely no way for a new version to open it. You would have to have the original VI with diagram.

Hi,

The vi opens and runs in the older version 6.0. There is no broken wires or anything. When I try to run the program in the new version then it says cannot convert into newer version. Is it true that it is only compatible to the last 3x versions.

I also tried to open in 7.1...I guess its too new for the vi written in 6.0.

Thanks

I don't understand. When you open it in 6.0, does it convert it from an even older version? If that's the case, then save it (with a new name) with 6.0 and then you can open it with 7.0 or 7.1. If it truly is a version 6.0 VI that you can't open with 7.0, post it so someone can look at it. LabVIEW 7.0 or 7.1 can definitely open a 6.0 VI. I just opened a 5.1 VI with no problem.
