Output of a DC voltage from printer port.

Hello,

Can anyone help me?

I am using Labview 8.2 and want output a small DC voltage (0-5V) from the printer port. I want to do this when Labview using simple edge detection has detected a edge. Is this possible. I would be greatful to anyone who can help.

Thanks,

Kieran

Labview ships with an example of reading and writing the parallel port (that's the printer port). Search for "Parallel Port Read and Write Loop.vi".

As I recall it is possible to read the wrong address and crash the computer.

You should also be aware that the output voltage is not necessarily 5V, as it is dependent on the manufacturer of the motherboard. Modern motherboards are typically 3V, not 5V. You should also be extremely careful to not draw too much current, or you'll fry your motherboard. As far as "how much is too much", that depends on your motherboard's specs.

I think I better look into specs of motherboard before I try anything just to be on the safe side. Thanks for info you might have just saved my motherboard.
