Check all of your settings. Baud rate, stop bits, parity, flow control (set to none unless you have problem with buffer overrun). You probably have a setting that doesn't match, or you cable is not the right kind. Is the end device considered a computer device or terminal device. It should be terminal. If not, you need a null modem cable.
