PXI System Tab and Controller Missing in Platform Services 3.0.1 MAX 5.0

System OS: Win XP SP3 Vanilla

Software: NI PXI Platform Services 3.0.1 Fresh install (with MAX 5.0)

Chassis: PXI-1045

Controller: NI-PXI-8360

Cards: Multiple

When the system is connected to the controller card in the chassis I expected a PXI System Tab and the identification of my controller and chassis and cards.

Instead Windows detected the individual cards as new individual devices.

If I try to manually set up a PXI Chassis System tab but the controller does not appear in the list. I have reviewed the installation directory and seen configuration ini's for the controller and chassis. (attachment).

In an earlier experiment I had DAQ and DAQmx installed and I installed the drivers for the cards. Some cards appeared in the DAQ and DAQmx folders but not as associated with a chassis. Others (RF switches) appeared directly beneath Devices and Interfaces in no folder.

I understand the readme file for Platform services 3.0.1 says 'Removed Redundant PXI System Tree'. But for every example on the web and for other systems I have seen the PXI System controller and chassis is identified.

How do I get this machine to recognise the controller and chassis and cards within it? Is it doing so transparently?

Many Thanks.

Do you currently have and daqmx driver installed? I would suggest installing the latest version Daqmx 9.8. Also you can try to reset the max configuration file to see if it does anything.

Thankyou Carl,

This matter is now resolved. The solution was to change the software installation order.

I did have daqmx 7.4 installed when I first observed the condition where cards were appearing in MAX and were not associated with a chassis. In this case I had installed Labview 7.1 and its device drivers, and then installed PXI platform services 3.0.1 as an upgrade for a new controller (and computer) with legacy source.

I suspect your solution may have worked but before I could try it I formatted the drive and reinstalled Windows and installed PXI Platform services 3.0.1 first and only, and plugged it in. When the chassis was not recognised a second time I made the post. Then I reinstalled Labview 7.1 and its device drivers, omitting any modules that had already been installed by Platform Services.

Following this the hardware was recongnised by Windows and I had to manually locate and install the drivers through its wizard. This time however it recognised the controller and MAX then recognised the chassis.

I really appreciate your reply, thanks again.
