PXI local bus

Does any of the NI cards (or other vendors) use the local bus on the PXI card cage?

Currently the only boards that use the local bus are our Multifunction DAQ E Series Boards.
They only use the local bus when installed in the right most slot of a PXI Combo Chassis (PXI-1010 or PXI-1011, the chassis that come with a SCXI chassis attahced to it). They use the local bus to control the SCXI portion through the backplane.
The driver of the boards (NI-DAQ) reads the PXISYS.INI file that corresponds to the combination of chassis and controllers, and finds out if the boards can use the local bus or not.

Find out information on how to configure this systems at the following link:
KB 1NFF457T : Configuring a PXI-1010 or PXI-1011 Chassis

Find mor
e information about PXI Initialization Files (PXISYS.INI files) at:
KB 1EGB71UI : What Are PXISYS.INI and CHASSIS.INI?
PXISYS.INI files for every combination of NI PXI chassis and controllers

Hope this helps,

I need to add a correction to the answer I posted above. Not only E series boards use the local bus. There are other boards that use it, although for the same purpose, this is, to control the SCXI chassis.

Some boards are capable of sending the controlling signals to the SCXI chassis AND receiving/sending signals from/to the SCXI modules through the local bus. Other boards are only capable of sending the control signals to the SCXI chassis, so it is necessary to read/send signals from/to the SCXI modules by external cabling.

The following document summarizes how NI PXI boards use the PXI Backplane timing and synchronization features:

What I was looking to do from my original post is find a way where I could use the local bus to control custom PXI cards. I am just looking for a way, either through a daq card or directly from a controller to send and received data on these lines.
