PXIe-4331 Not Present

Hi,

I connected the PXIe-4331 card to my computer, but it's showing "Not Present" in NI Max.

I made sure the card is really connected, I even turned off the computer, turned off the PXIe, turned on the PXIe, then turn on the computer.

Do I need to reinstall the driver? If yes, where can I find the driver?

This PXIe was working for me a couple of months ago.

Thanks

Thanks for showing a picture of MAX.  Unfortunately, I can't read it.  Can you take another screen shot, but only show the left-most pane, stopping when the text runs out, so it have lettering large enough to read?  Can you tell me into what the PXIe-4331 card plugs?  Does this device show up in MAX?

It would also be a good idea to attach a second MAX Screen shot showing (only) the Software expanded tab.  If you are missing a Driver, it won't show up on this list ...

The image above shows the PXIe-4331 that was NOT present.  This PXIe-4331 worked a couple of months ago.

Since I posted on this forum this morning, I deleted this PXIe-4331 (maybe I shouldn't have?), installed the latest NI-DAQmx 19.0, turned off the computer, turned off the PXIe-4331, turned on the PXIe-4331, turned on the computer, and this is what I see in my NI MAX now:

Now, the second Devices and Interfaces looks a lot more reasonable.  I was asking into what the PXIe-4331 was plugged, i.e. "Where is the PXIe Box?".  Maybe it is the PXI-1000B?  I'm wondering how the PC running MAX "sees" the PXI-1000B -- is there any connection between them?  In particular, is the PXI-1000B turned on, and plugged into the network?  What happens if you right-click Remote Systems and ask MAX to find any of them?

Hi, the PXIe-4331 is connected to the PXIe-1073 chassis, and this 1073 is connected to a card in the PC.  See attached picture.

I'm not sure where this PXI-1000B came from. When I installed the 'NI-DAQmx 19.0', this PXI-1000B appeared out of nowhere.

I'm guessing now I have to find a way to add the PXIe-4331 back into my NI Max.  Any idea how to do this? Thanks.

Aha!  Your 4331 plugs into a PXIe-1073, which connects to a PC through something else (MXI?) that I've not used, so don't quite know the technology.  I did read the Manual, though, and it sounds like it might have its own Driver and method to communicate with the PC.  Something other than the PCI bus, USB bus, and TCP/IP (Ethernet and/or Wireless).

Pay attention to Page 2-14 of the manual. "PXI Express System Configuration with MAX".  It talks about installation of drivers via MAX.

It looks like the LINK light on your chassis isn't lit.  If that's the case then the problem is hardware, not software.

You should check the MXI cable to see if it has been damaged.  That would explain why neither your chassis nor your card is showing up in MAX.  Note that if it were a driver problem you should still see the device in Device Manager, probably marked as broken.

Ok, the problem is now fixed.  I opened up the PC, tightened the 8361 card, restarted the 1073 chassis, turned on the computer, and now I can see the 4331 in my NI-Max.  In addition, I also installed the latest NI-DAQM 19.0 and visa511full.exe.  I'm not sure which fixed the problem, but it is now working. Thanks.

Probably the best thing you did was to learn (the hard way!) more about your system, your hardware, and "how the pieces fit together".  Congratulations on getting everything to work!  Now, before you forget (or, worse, leave and take your hard-won experience with you), write a one-page document describing how this particular system goes together.  Note that when/if you get a new version of LabVIEW, you may (or may not) need to do some of all of this exercise again.  Better to have it all written down, step by step, if only to remind you of the various pieces.
