Problem setting up legacy DAQ board using NI-DAQ 6.1 for Labview

Solved!
Go to solution

I know the board is an older legacy product not supported by NI, however for  a low budget project, I have 3 of these AT-MIO-16x cards and need to use them.

I know I had this working in the not os distant past, however for the life of me cannot get things sorted out and working.

Using an NT box, in which this setup used to work....uninstalled and started fresh for other reasons, and I cannot get the NI-DAQ 6.1 to support either LAbview 6.1 or 7.1.

Of course I understand the NI-DAQ 6.1 should be used for Labview 5 and older, but also know this has been done successfully in the past.

I downloaded all the dozed or so support  KnowledgeBase articles, and do recall using them successfully the last time I set this up so I know somehow it works.

My configuration is: AT-MIO-16X   At bus combo board (known working)

NT PC

Labview 6.1 or 7.1

NI-DAQ 6.1 is the newest that will support this card.

However it will not install its support to the newer Labview versions and I get errors, or crashing, or missing files, when I follow the various knowledge base workarounds.

I was hoping somebody has some documentation somewhere how to handle this, as it really is a spaghetti matrix.

I can get the NI-DAQ support files installed, and the Configuration manager runs fine, finds the card, and allows its settings to be set.

But the DAQ Channel Wizard doesn't run at all (no errors) and when I load the DAQ vi's of any type, Labview crashes.

Thanks

Kichman,

Do you have any other versions of LabVIEW or DAQ drivers installed on the machine, or are you only trying to work with the one version of LabVIEW and DAQ 6.1?

Have you looked through the below knowledge bases?

How Do I Use Older Versions of NI-DAQ (6.8 or Earlier) with LabVIEW 6.x? http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/F7D5934AF18EAA038625694600453DF2

Making DAQ VIs Visible when Using NI-DAQ 6.1.x with LabVIEW 6.0 http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/CACF9DEEC9DEB99086256ADB0071B94E

If there was anything else specific you had tried with the working system before, try that again, and go through the steps in the above knowledge bases with a clean installation. If the products aren't supported with one another, seeing some issues like this isn't all that unexpected.

So many problems, I decided to back up and start over.

I reformatted the C: partition, reloaded NT (I know, this is an old box :-)) and reloaded Labview 6.1 and NI-Daq 6.1.

I have printed out 8 or 9 knowledge bases, and followed them. Some of the software errors seem to be fixed, at least Labview runs now.

But the knowledge base solution (the ones you reference) do not work- that is, I cannot load the NIDAQ 6.1 support for labview, it ALWAYS quits with the "newer NIDAQ 6 version is available, run it form the LAbview disk instead) error, when I choose version 5 as suggested.

How do I get NI-DAQ labview support loaded in this case?  None of the knowledge bases seems to address this.

Further clarifications...

Labview 6.1 is installed, runs fine, there is no NI-DAQ supoprt or vi's available.

NI-DaQ channel wizard is installed, the multi i/o card is setup and tested IO with an led on the analog out port using the test function in the config wizard.

SO thae hardware works, the LAbview works...

Just need to get NI-DAQ 6.1 to load the version 5 (latest it supports) Labview files....

Even further clarification...

The NI-DAQ 6.1 installer comes with 2 Labview installation sets of files, v4 and v5, slaved to run with the general NI-DAQ installer (they cannot be run alone).

If I choose version 4 Labview support, the v4 files install under LAbview 6.1 (but they crashed my pc last time I tried loading daq files in Labview 6.1 but I will try again soon).

But the version 5 won't run, I get the "newer version on the LAbview CD, please run from there" error.

So based on what I have read, the version 5 is all that will work for this configuration, and the knowledgebase articles seem to have a workaround to make v5 install to LAbview, but it doesn't work here no matter what I try.

Thanks

Confirmation of above...when I load an example v4 DAQ vi (Analog IO) which I just installed under Labview 6.1,  it immediately crashes Labview.

I believe I found it. Apparently there are 3 or 4 Ni-DAQ installers on the ftp site.

And only one of them has the fix listed in the knowledge base to permit installing v5 support for Labview.

Installing now, wish me luck.

Kichman,

Have you had any success using the other installer from the ftp?

Let us know so we can look at this issue further if it doesn't fix your issue.

Thanks,

Yes, the installer from the disks folder for NI-DAQ 6.1 on the ftp site worked well.

Solution found. Thanks
