Programatically changing the sizes of multiple front panel objects

What I would like to do is be able to take an object on the front panel and somehow change its size programatically (not by using the selector tool and manually changing it. The reason that I don't want to do it this way is that I would like to somehow be able to change the size of multiple objects on the front panel. For example I would like to be able to select the multiple front panel objects and programatically reduce all of their sizes by 80%.

How would I go about doing this?

Would you be able to translate the 7.1 code into 6.1? I am working on getting a 7.0 student edition but I was informed, (about 2 weeks ago), that there is not a student version of 7.1 So if you could for the time bieng 6.1 I could use.
