Dear sirs,
Could you please answer some questions, connected with our project idea.
We are working with laboratory bioreactors (fermentors) and making process control and visualisation software for them.
We have a microprocessor based controller which fulfils the control and measurement functions. And we have a program for a desktop PC written in Delphy for operator management, visualisation and datalogging. Data exchange between the controller and the PC is through serial cable with a Modbus like protocol.
Now we have an idea to implement the functions of the PC program in a PDA,using Labview. The serial connection to the controller should be made using
Bluetooth (we will add a Bluetooth module to the Com port of our controller. The
PDA already has a built in Bluetooth).
In our opinion with LabView it should not be a problem to make a control panel window in the PDA send commands the controller and to show the actual values of process parameters. But some questions arise, that we can not answer and would like to get your help:
1. Is it possible to implement the Modbus protocol in the PDA using LabView with PDA module? Or maybe some other serial protocol for data exchange, which we could implement in our controller.
2. Is it possible to organize datalogging and trending (process and historical) in the PDA? Do we need the LabView DSC module for that purpose? Or maybe we can write our own scripts in LabView to organize the databases and trending and then compile it for the PDA.
What do you think about the project. Maybe you can see some other problems which we do not notice.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards.
