Proramatically checking calibration status

Hello out there,

I am thinking about verifying calibration programatically in the statr-up sequence of my software over the internet by going to https://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/nical.main and entering the serial number.
Has anyone tried to do this?  Is there a better way?

THanx in advance,
Karl

I see some potential problems.

If your internet connection goes down, do you just stop testing?

Do you use only NI boards and are all of your boards listed has having certs on-line. If no, then you will need a deifferent procedure.

If someone decides that the NI cal services are too expensive/take too long/whatever and changes cal labs in the future, your program will have to be changed.

Some ISO auditors like to see nice and neat reports that state last cal date, cal interval, next cal due date, and the actual certificates.

What you are proposing sounds interesting and may work just find. All of my experience has been with places that have a wide variety of equipment and different number of cal procedures. The cal department here maintains a database that issues a report once a week of what is due, who is supposed to do the cal, how much it costs, etc. The replacement of equipment with spares can then be planned and replaced before someone starts using it. They would catch all kinds of flak if an operator was prevented from doing some testing until they could find someone to do the equipment swap.
