RFID reader

We are trying to develop a hospital robot. A hospital robot base will carry a rfid reader and notebook. All the patient, staff and guest will be tagged (active tag). There are several module of this project. My part is "Patient guidance module". For example, a patient can be guided to the X-ray room, or a visitor to a patient’s ward. The speed of the robot can be adjusted automatically according to the pace of the person. While guiding the robot speed needs to synchronize according to the patience speed. I don’t know how the robot will move from one place to another place. This will be programmed by some other research group. My concern is to keep a specific distance while robot guiding patient from one place to another place. My idea is to Patient will carry a active rfid Tag and robot base will equipped a UHF rfid reader (0-10m) connected to a laptop. ACTIVE tags and Reader (Receiver) will give an RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) that can be indicative of the spacing between patient and robot. Scenario: 0-1 Meter : Robot request patient to slow down 1-3 Meter : Robot keep Human walking speed and patient will follow robot 3-6 Meter: robot slow down the speed to allow patient to come in 3 meter range 6+ Meter robot stops and wait for the patience to come in his range. I need to manipulate this signal strength using LABVIEW so that base robot programmer can incorporate their speed during this guidance operation. I am looking for suggestions about choosing hardware and software.

Hi DCU,

I hope you are doing well today! From the sound of this application, you might want to start by looking at our Signal Generators. The arbitrary and RF waveform generators would be suitable and you might also need a RF up convertor. All of this definitely depends on your application. I am sure all of the software and hardware involved in this application will be expensive and would recommend you to setup an appointment with a Field Engineer so he/she can visit you and help you make the right choice on the products you would need from NI. If you are in the U.K., you should call +44 1635 572410 and ask them for the contact information of your Field Engineer. Good luck with your application; this definitely sounds like an interesting project to work on.
