RS232 Interface with CompactRIO

hi Rob

glad to hear you are having a degree of success.

What I can recommend to you is to contact your local NI office with regard to FPGA course.

I have recently completed a three day course squashed into 2 days here in Northern Europe.
The course was well worth the cost and time spent, in fact I would go so far to say that actually
 the course exceeded my expectations.

If I had to rate all the NI courses I have attended then this would be the best!!Smiley Wink

Hi,

Thanks xseadog, I will bare it in mind.

As for now I have still been having trouble zipping up the project, hopefully this will work as I’ve not attached the folder to the project.

Although I appear to have solved the output frequency problem, there is still an issue with no RS232 being output for the first 15 min or so, unless it receives a word first. After 15 min of not seeing any input words, words are output continuously at 100Hz as required, if subsequent words are received it doesn’t matter, it keeps outputting as well. I haven't been able to test the CAN interface now that it has been moved to the FPGA but should get round to this on Wednesday.

Kind Regards

Rob

Hi Rob,

I've taken a look at your project and at first glance I did not see anything obvious that would cause your RS232 output to be delayed for around 15 minutes.  It looks like the outputs depend on some constants/globals that are generated by the Monitor Wheel Outputs loop and the Monitor ECU Outputs and Sensor Inputs loop.  Are you sure these values are changing in those loops?  It could be that your RS232 Output VI is outputting constant values until a value changes in either of those loops. As you have custom hardware that I don't have here, I can't really reproduce your problem.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions or if you found out where the problem was.
