Re-installation of Labview 7.1 on new machine with XP

We just received a brand new PC, intel pentium 4 , 280 GHz with windows XP service pack 2. I am trying to install Labview 7 express from the disc and everything is fine until I download the PID folder from the toolkit software disc. After downloading the PID folder and upon re-starting my machine, it locks up. I can delete the PID folder but the machine will still lock up upon re-start. I have to completely Un-install NI software before I can get the machine freed up.
I've tried copying the PID file from an existing machine (the PID file works fine on this machine) but when I load it on the new machine, it locks up again.
I'm very new to Labview so if I have not given you enough info, please be patient with me.
Thanks!!

Which version of the PID Toolkit are you trying to install?

Also when you say download do you mean install or are you copying the data folders across?  You should run the installer to install the PID Toolkit.

Any more information you could give us will help us help you.

This is 6.0.
We just migrated 3 computers from windows 2000 to XP two weeks ago and the discs were used at that time without any problems.
We have a brand new machine on which I'm trying to download labview 7.1. Everything seems to go OK until I download the PID file. When I re-start the PC after download and it locks up. The only way to free up the PC is to completely un-install all of labview.
I thought that the tool kit disc might be corrupt so I re-installed labview but I copied the PID file from anothe machine and when I did this, it locked up again.

BRTC,

I have a few more questions for you:

You said you have just migrated 3 computers from Windows 2000 to XP - have you seen this problem on all of them or just one?

Which file did you copy across from another machine?

When does the computer lock up and how are you able to get around it in order to uninstall LabVIEW?

Thanks,

Yes, we just migrated 3 machines from Windows 2000 to XP SP2.

So far, we have only ran two out of the three machines but both of them are acting strange. Both machines perform the same process and both have similar problems with timing issues.

Because of these issues, we have decided to try a brand new machine and it is on this machine I am having trouble installing LV 7.1. ( Please see Reference#7130953 ) that I submitted yesterday.

I can install the LV 7.1 disc, both drivers ( disc 1 and 2 ) and the DSC disc. I am able to shutdown and restart the PC fine up to this point. When I install the PID folder from the Toolkit disc seems to be when the trouble starts. After install, I am unable to re-start the PC. It acts like it’s going to re-boot just fine and at the very last second before the screen would normally go black, the PC locks up. The only way I can re-start it is to shut it all the way down and then come back up. To shut it down I have to unplug it. I do not receive any error messages.

I have tried un-installing the PID folder and then try to re-start but still get the lock-up.

I end up having to completely un-install LV before the PC will re-start properly.

I have tried using the first 4 install discs again and then copying the PID folder from one of the other machines but get the same results.

I have tried using an updated ( Feb 2006) toolkit disc but still get the same results. However, I located a NI developer

suite 2006
set of discs that are LV 8.0 and I am able to install all of these (including the PID folder) and the PC will shutdown and re-start as it should.

Thanks for your time,

John
