Recommend PC for use with PCI 1405

Hi,

I need to buy a PC with 2 free full size PCI slots (one for a NI PCI-1405) but I'm not having much luck. I was going to order a T3500 Precision from Dell but I couldn't work out whether the half-size PCI slots were suitable. Anyone have any idea?

Thanks,

Steve

Several years ago I needed a PC with extra PCI slots, as well as ISA slots for some very old boards, and I founded what I needed from Acme Portable:

They will build a custom machine in whatever configuration you need.  Most are ruggedized for industrial or field use.  The one I got was pricey; easily twice what an off-the-shelf PC cost at the time, but it had 8 open slots, and it did what I needed for several years.

Can you afford to roll your own computer?  I know there are a plethora of maintenance reasons not to do this, but there are a lot of advantages in flexibility in doing it.  Most motherboards support two PCI slots; it is a matter of getting a case which is big enough.  A trip to your local computer store should result in something satisfactory.  Unfortunately, having never tried to make a computer with full size PCI slots, I cannot recommend anything (the recommendation would change in six months, anyway 😉 ).
