Report Generation Toolkit missing MS Office VI

A few weeks ago I've installed LabVIEW 2026 Q1 to give it a try, it has updated my LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit from 2024 to 2026. Now my LabVIEW 2024 Q3 can't find MS Office VIs.

The "_office" folder is missing from "vi.lib\addons\_office ". Also, the office palette disappeared in the RGT palette:

I've tried re-installing the RGT 2024 on NIPM but it keeps installing the 2026 version. And the download page on NI.com hasn't been updated since 2021...

 

Also, I can't check on 2026 version if it exists because I don't have a valid license and I already used my trials.

 

I'll ask a colleague of mine his "_office" folder, it should fix my issue, but it's very inconvenient.

 

Did you experienced the same issue?

BTW, why the forum post title text input keeps moving my cursor to the end when editing it????????????

Those missing VIs depend on MS Office.

If you don't have MS Office installed, or doesn't have ActiveX registered properly, you won't get those VIs when install RGT.

As you describe your situation, you had a working version of LabVIEW 2024, including the RGT, which was licensed and working.  You then installed LabVIEW 2026, but didn't purchase its license, and were running (two) trials of it, and now find that the installation of the LabVIEW 2026 (unlicensed) version of the RGT has apparently messed up (possibly by overwriting it) the code needed to work with your (licensed) version of LabVIEW 2024.

 

Fortunately, there's a fix.

  1. Uninstall (using the one safe way to do so) all National Instruments software.  Be sure to avoid deleting Folders (for example, folders named "NI" or "National Instruments"), and do not attempt to modify the Windows Registry.
  2. Reinstall and re-activate LabVIEW 2024 using your existing License (if it is a "permanent" LabVIEW 2024 license).

I've described Step 1, the complete removal of NI Software, numerous times on the Forum.  It basically involves using Control Panel, Programs & Features, to remove NI Software.  This takes three passes, with the second one being to uninstall NI Package Manager, and the third cleaning up stuff left over.  Again, I strongly recommend not being more aggressive in removing NI Folders or registry entries -- you run the risk of not making NI software "uninstallable", requiring a complete rebuilding of the Windows operating system and all your tools and data.

I don't need excel yet, so I'll work on my other tasks and try the fix when I have time available.

Depending on who installs your LabVIEW system, the entire process may take about 2-3 hours (each step being about 30 minutes).  The important part is to be cautious, especially in the LabVIEW "UnInstall".  I'll see if I can find one of my descriptions of this process, and post it here.  Installation is usually quicker, provided you don't try to "Install Everything".

Well, that was quick.  I sent this post last November (edited slightly):

 

If you want to "do it yourself", the fastest and safest (possibly the only safe method) is to do the following steps:

  1. Using Control Panel, Programs and Features, uninstall NI Software.  Be sure you don't have "Products Only" checked.  Click the "Name" box on the left to select everything (except NI Package Manager, greyed out by default).  This gets rid of almost everything.  Reboot.
  2. Do it again.  This time, (but see step 3) it might only show NI Package Manager.  That's OK.  Proceed, and remove NIPM.  Reboot.
  3. Do it a third time.  You might see some software associated (perhaps) with older versions of LabVIEW, pre-NIPM.  Remove and reboot.
  4. Now you are ready to reinstall LabVIEW Whatever (and VIPM).  I recommend you only install components and drivers that you know you need now.

Note that a "Repair" operation usually takes much longer, as does a "partial removal" (for example, to uninstall only LabVIEW 2019, for example).
