Roper coolsnap-pro camera can be driven by Labview or Matlab?

We have a Nikon microscopy(Nikon Eclipse TE2000-U) and a coolsnap-pro(Series No. A00G82017)camera together with the microscopy. The software we use to capture imagines before is MetaVue. Now for some research reasons, we need to drive the camera with some other programming softwares, such as Matlab and Labview,so that we can write our specific programs to control actions of the camera. I am wondering if this camera can be driven by Matlab or Labview, or both of them will work.

Thank you so much and any help will be greatly appreciated!

Liang,

LabVIEW has several options that will allow you to communicate with your cameras, including NI-VISION.  To better answer your question, how do the cameras connect to the computer (USB, Firewire)?  Do you happen to know how MetaVue communicates with the cameras?

Please post back with more information!

Hi,
I need to connect and to drive the camera NIKON Ds-5mc (controller NIKON Ds-u1) by means of USB port of my pc.
I tried to use Vision assistant 7.1 with the USB driver that I found on the National Instrument site.
Vision assistant found the USB camera but I don't manage to see the image...
After few seconds an error appears "the acquisition timed out". Do you have any idea of what can I do?

Thanks

Aciandrini,

Thanks for the extra infomormation all of your posts.  The NI-IMAQ for USB driver is one of our free drivers our R&D team put together to work with DirectShow compatible USB cameras.  Although the driver was not designed to work with Vision Assistant, it should work in most cases.  Before moving to Vision Assistant, make sure you can acquire an image in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX).  Vision Assistant will use the image captured in MAX so if the acquisition is not working here, you will not be able to acquire in Vision Assistant.  The timeout setting may be related to your acquisition type in MAX.  Double check the settings for your camera here.

Thanks,

Hi
I have similar problem. We bought Cool SNAP EZ camera with FireWire. I would like to connect this camera to PC. Could you give me an advice ( step by step) how can I check if my camera could be driven by LabView ? We have LabView 8.2 with Vision. I'm really new user so plz be patient.
Thank you very much

In order for LabVIEW to control your camera, you just need to make sure that the NI-IMAQ for 1394 driver is compatible with the camera.  Cameras that output 8-bit monochrome uncompressed, 16-bit monochrome uncompressed, YUV, or RGB video data and adhere to the IEEE-1394 standards for industrial digital cameras (up to IIDC v1.31, also known as DCAM) will be compatible with the NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 driver.

The camera's documentation should tell if it is IIDC-compliant.

Once the camera is connected, and the driver is installed, you should be able to verify that you can control the camera from Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX).

The next step would be to open the example finder and take a look at the HL Snap VI to see a simple example of acquiring an image from the camera.  You may also find more information here: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/2977
