SHC68-68-EPM compatible panel mount connectors

I am building some custom hardware. I want the front panel to connect to two SHC68-68-EPM cables (and thence to a PCI-6229 M series DAQ card).

From the support section, I know that the cable connector is the AMP 749699-7. I've spent ages looking for a suitable panel mount connector that accepts the SHC68-68-EPM cable. The problems are

1. The vast majority of panel mount connectors are female, not male as they need to be here.

2. The only male panel mount connectors are designed for board mounting as well. They attach to the board and panel with typically M2.5 screws, and latch to the cable with a latch system. Unfortunately, there is no way to retrofit latches to the SHC68-68-EPM cable because the backshell looks to be a custom moulding (with the NI logo on it), rather than an AMP standard part.

I also have a couple of CB-68LPR NI breakout PCBs. I can't use these directly in the enclosure because they are
1. Too big.
2. The AMP 2-174225-5 PCB connector on these is not designed for panel mount.

So, it's quite obscure, but can anyone recommend a connector that is panel mount, male (i.e. plug) and locks to the SHC68-68-EPM cable through a pair of jackscrews? Someone must have wanted to build custom hardware to interface to NI cables (?).

Thanks!

Hi,
unfortunately, there isn't a femal to male converter for these connectors from NI, although I don't know about AMP.

which means unfortunately you'll need to talk to AMP on this.

You may find the following websites useful :

http://www.carrolltouch.com/ (this will redirect after 60 seconds to the elo company who bought out carolltouch)
http://www.amp.com/

Also try the interconnect companies virginia panel and mac panel.
They have lots of experience in this kind of thing and may be able to offer a solution

Hi - I need to do basically the exact same thing as the first post in this thread. Has any one found a panel mount connector as described here? thanks!

I never resolved that issue, but have learned a lot (!) since then
1. Desolder the connectors from the PCB and solder on something more appropriate. The pitch will be standard to a whole range of connectors from different manufacturers.
2. It's very common in the electronics world not to use panel mount connectors at all as they need hand connected/soldered. I am currently developing a couple of boards with board mounted connectors. In that case, the connectors are part of the board build. They are laid out on the board such that they will protrude through the case wall when a cut-out is made in the case.
3. Design a very simple break out PCB with the university pcb department. It could be printed on a laser printer using acetate for example.

Not sure if this helps though...best of luck!

Yes and No;

The Amp 90 degree board mount connector your looking for is Tyco/AMP 2-5174225-5. However, the Jack screws are

different. The cable has #2-56 Jacks and the connector has M2.5 Jacks this is the real question where do you get the Jackscrews.

You can order the JackSockets only from NI  Part#: 187949-10  for more info under KnowledgeBase search for JackSocket not JackSockets.

The connector shown in

http://worldofcables.com/store/viewItem.asp?idProduct=805#

has exactly the wrong Gender to do what is discussed above.

The connector show has Female pins on both side. We need Male pins on both sides.

A suitable connector is Honda Connector PN PCS-E68MD, available from 123edistribution.com and from Breven Electronics,  among other places.
