I have searched the NI site for info about sending SMS to a cellular GSM phone from LabVIEW. A lot of links and hints, but I still dont get it: What do I need and what do I do (example codes?). My applictaton will run on an ordinary WinNT machine with ethernet connection possible.
If your service provider allows you to send email over SMS, sending an email from LabVIEW may be an easy solution. NI offers an Internet Toolkit add on for LabVIEW that has built in VIs for sending emails.
I do have a LabVIEW VI that makes Outlook to send email, and I can use Outlook to send SMS (outlook add on), but I still dont know if its possible to do this from LabVIEW. Any suggestions?
I would just create a new VI and drop in the VI that sends email. Pass all the appropriate parameters and try it out. I haven't seen the VI but I suspect it accepts the email address and the message you want to send. If you specify the email address to send SMS you should be in good shape.
There's one example here. I've attached another one that I downloaded from somewhere I don't remember but it is similar with the exception that it allows for attachments. There is also the Internet toolkit add-on which is SMTP based and doesn't rely on Outlook being installed. There have been other examples posted, You might want to do a search for SMTP.
