Save to Previous Version from 8.2 to 7.0

Hi all,

is there any tool or trick out there that allows to convert VIs from 8.2 to 7.0? Saving to previous version only goes back to 8.0 in the latest 8.2 version...

No trick at all. It can't be done. Ever since NI gave us the ability to save in a different version, it's been for only the previous one. To get to 7.0, you would have to have a copy of 8.0 which could save as 7.1 and a copy of 7.1 which could save as 7.0. You could try posting the VI here to see if anyone can help. There are a lot of differences between versions though, and a total conversion may not be possible.

Hi Dennis! I've found just the same problem it's posted in this thread. I have several VIs developped in LabVIEW 8.2, and I'd like to convert them into the 7.1 version. I've done what you suggested, but I can't find one way to transform them from 8.0 to 7.1.

Do you know any way to do it? thank you in advance

Dennis may or may not have this thread on his watch list so he may not get notified that a new post has been added.

As Dennis pointed out, there is only one way to go from 8.0 to 7.1: you need a copy of LabVIEW 8.0 or you need to ask someone who has a copy of LabVIEW 8.0 to resave the VIs for you as 7.1. If you don't have 8.0 or don't know anyone who does have it, you can try posting your VI on this forum. Often people ask for their VIs to be downgraded, and kind souls will do it for you, as long as it's not multi-megabytes that we're talking about here.

Hi, thank you for writing so soon! I don't have any problem, because I have the three versions installed on my computer. The conversion from 8.2 to 8.0 was easy. Once I have the file in 8.0, I open it with LabVIEW 8.0, but I can't save it "as 7.1", like Dennis said. Maybe there is something more to do, but I can't guess what it is.

Have you ever done the conversionfrom 8.0 to 7.1?

thanks

Hi smercurio_fc, you were right, there was an option to convert files from 8.0 to 7.1. The problem I had was very stupid: I have activated "abriged menus" in the options menu, and I couldn't see "save for previous version". Once seen, I've had no problems to convert the file to 7.1 format.

Thank you very much for your attention.

No problem, I was in the middle of responding when I saw your follow-up come through that you had found the menu item.

Hello Everyone,

Robert Cole kindly uploaded his Tescom ER3000 driver,

http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=253510

The driver was save in 8.2.1.  My PC that has Tescom ER3000 connected has only LV 7.1.1 installed.  I have an access to a PC with LV 8.2 installed.  I haven't found one PC with LV 8.0 installed.  I asked NI for help and was told they would not do it for a third-party's VI.

I would appreciate if anyone can help to save Robert Cole's driver in LV 7.1 version.

Fang

PS, so many people in my workplace were upset when NI didn't provide downward conversion for VIs.  This makes VI exchange so difficult among different people.

Why does your link actually point to https://ums.jpl.nasa.gov/owa/redir.aspx?C=c64a0a4a99b7403f95966e34c51cf093&URL=http%3a%2f%2fforums.n...

We don't have access to a JPL server.

(I recopy/paste from the direct link.  The earlier one was copied from the email exchange with NI, blame MS Email Express.)
