I left my stuff at home today but I will give this a shot tomorrow.
Thanks,

I installed the software with no issues. I found the "Data" file and renamed it "Data2" (it was Program Files in my NI directory but I figure that didn't matter). I shut down the computer and plugged in all of the adapters (three adapters, two of them with 1 port, one of them with 2 ports). I started up the computer and looked in the Windows hardware profile. It listed COM 5, 6, 7 and one of the single port adapters was not recognized because the driver was not installed. I opened MAX and it listed the following:
COM4 - ok
COM5 - ! (A settings conflict)
COM6 - Disabled
COM7 - ok
(I did not try to resolve the settings conflict.)
I then installed the driver for the adapter that was not recognized by Windows. The installation was done from a disk and seemed to go fine. Windows listed it as COM11. However when I try to get MAX to list the available COM ports, it crashes ("MAX has encountered an error and needs to close...."). If I unplug all of the adapters and try to get MAX to list the ports, it lists COM4 (ok) and COM6 (disabled).
I can plug in adapters while in MAX with no problem. I tried re-naming Data2 back to Data but it did not change anything.

Corey,
Measurement and Automation explorer will populate the list of COM ports from the registry key we discussed. The drivers of the USB serial ports is responsible for clearing out this registry key, but if for some reason it did not clear properly, you may want to back up that registry key and then clear it manually (leaving the COM ports that still exist on your computer)

Well it looks like that did it. I deleted the second entry in the registry (which was for the computer's modem). I then opened MAX and it now allowed me to delete COM ports not in the system. I rebooted the computer and checked the registry again. It had repopulated and had the modem listed again (COM4). I checked MAX and now it only listed COM4 as part of the system. I plugged in the USB-serial devices and MAX would recognize them once the list was refreshed. I also resolved the issue with MAX crashing.
Thanks for everyone's help.
