Skip CLAD?

Solved!

Can I skip CLAD and go straight to CLD? I've worked with LV for a few years and have developed three medium scale projects.

No, you cannot skip CLAD. CLAD is a pre-requisite for CLD.

I guess NI just wants the money.

Actually, the CLAD was created because too many people were taking the CLD before they were ready.  The CLAD was then created to ensure people at least knew how to read LabVIEW code.

And NI makes no money on certification.  At best, the exams pay for the certification team.

If it's any consolation, having been in a similar position to you in the past, I turned up at a NI Developer Day event which was aimed at prepping for the CLD. At the end of it, I sat the CLAD in ten minutes then ran back into the CLD prep seminar.

I don't remember paying for my attendance - I could be wrong, as I also use training credits a fair bit - but it meant that I got the relative formality of the CLAD out of the way with little pain.

Edit - also, from memory, they run a CLAD session at NI Days, right? Registration for that is free IIRC

If you have other exam related questions you will can also post on the Certification subforum.  I'm not suggesting this thread needs to be moved, just that the subject manor is probably more appropriate there.  NI used to have events where you could take the CLAD for free, or give away $100 certificates for taking any exam.  I'd say keep an eye out, and look to attend any NI sponsored events like NI Days.

Please see my sig for reasons why the CLAD is relevant even to seasoned LV programmers.  (Towards the bottom of the discussion.)
