Skipping password-protected VIs during a LabVIEW search

When I search all VIs in memory, and some of them are password-protected, I have to click a dialog box for every single VI. This drastically slows down my searching speed. Is there a way around this, like skipping password-protected VIs during a search?

Hi bmihura,

If you are iterating through the VI's yourself, you can use the Get Lock State method from a vi reference to check if a VI is password protected (or just locked).  Check the attached image for a trivial sample.

Edit:  I missed the operative word: search!  In my version of LV (7.1) there doesn't seem to be a way around the password issue.  Perhaps another can offer better advice.  Sorry!

Yes, I've seen that too with LV7.1.

I don't know any tricks around that..  😞

Hi,

LabVIEW asks for the password of some vi's ONLY when the vi is not used anywhere! This seems like a bug to me: if the vi is somewhere, the search is ok, if it's not used, the search is not ok.

The only workaround I can think of, is placing the VI in a new diagram, and use All Instances, or a search. You know the VI is used at least once, so the search will be fast...

Regards,

Wiebe.
