Sorensen XG 300-2.8 communication problem

Hi,  we are able to communicate the Sorensen XG 300-2.8 from Hyperterminal but when I try to communicate with the MAX -> Serial Interface -> Open visa panel. I can write to it but I couldn`t neither read or query as we are getting error. We are communicating through USB, Unfortunately we couldn`t communicate through MAX as well as through LabVIEW. We have installed all the drivers required please suggest some solutions or guide us in troubleshooting the issue or may give advise to what to look for?

Hello samputhur,

What errors are you getting?  Have you attempted to use the LabVIEW instrument drivers provided here:

NI Instrument Driver Network: Sorensen XG Series

http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/niid_web_display.model_page?p_model_id=20077

Error codes and screenshots of the errors you're seeing are extremely helpful.

Regards,

Dear Mr. Tom,

Attached are the error code and the error message we encountered. We had already installed the IVI and LabVIEW drivers as you have mentioned We got the error while trying to initialize the sorensen power supply using PLP drivers as seen in the image and the other error message while trying to read the status bit from MAX. Please let us know what you think. We look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Sam Puthur

Since hyperterminal sends both a carriage return and line feed, you should try doing the same. You can also set the termination character from the sorensen's menu if I recall.

You are not writing to it correctly if the termination character is wrong.

Hello Dennis,

In one of the earlier forums  you have mentioned about the drivers you created by yourself for XG 600 series can you please share the driver files http://forums.ni.com/t5/Instrument-Control-GPIB-Serial/Can-t-communicate-with-Sorensen-XG-series-thr...

from the comments by CHKNRCKD from the link we tried in MAX, the commands default termination character to be xD, and added termination character buffer to be *IDN?\r\n.

But while reading i`m still getting the error 0xBFFF0015.

Attached is the attribute error from MAX since we are fairly new we don`t know what to interpret out of this.

Sorry, I can't provide the code.

The error is meaningless since the property is only valid for NI serial hardware. Ignore it.
