Source Code Recovery Utility

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi all,

I have some large source codes that were mistakenly deleted from an old Windows 2000 machine (oops) and I need to recover them.

I tried two recovery utilities (professional grade) unfortunately these software did not have matching siguture with LabView file extension.

Could someone recommend a utitlity recovery software.

Very appreciative.

Kindest Regards

LabVIEW files are binay, just try to restore the actual files (hopefully there aren't any overwritten sectors), and see what LabVIEW thinks of these files.

Ton,

Exactly, I restored files in the hard drive. But the recovery software I used recognize only the popular extensions such (.doc) (.xls) ... but not (.vi).

So what I am looking for is a software that could easily distinguish LabView extensions and binary signatures.

Thank you.

Does your recovery software have any method for "training" it to recognize other software?  Check the help documentation or ask the vendor.  If it has this, feed it the files in vi.lib plus some examples.

I tried this about a year ago with a recovery service we used.  It would recognize the files, but unfortunately in my case the disk was so badly corrupted that it could not even recover text files.  So I cannot comment on how well it worked.

I would check the forums of the 'professional grade' recovery tool. They should be able to recover any file. They might have utilities to regenerade harmed Word files, but such a thing is not possible for LabVIEW files.

Lynn,

Do you recall the name of the recovery software you used.

I would try "training" the recovery tools I have assuming that option is available.

Zyrmax,

It was at BinaryBiz.com.  Our IT people suggested it.  As I said, it could locate the files but could only recover fragments even of simple text files.  The IT guy said he had never seen a case like mine where it could identify files and not recover them, so my experience may be atypical.

Lynn,

I am going to purchase it and try it.  I will keep the forums informed if it works.

Thank you all for the help.

Lynn,

Thank you for all your support. It worked!!!

BinaryBiz.com recovery software recognized the vi under the raw data recovery mode.

Take care
