State Chart Review

I am wondering if anyone has used the new State Chart Toolkit and if so did you like it?  I am curious about ease of use, is there a learning curve involved here and if so how steep is the slope?  Any input on the State Chart would be appreciated!

Cheers!

I would highly recommend that you go to the Statechart webpage to view details, use-cases, and allow you to try it online. It is probably my favorite new features of 8.5!

The Statchart Module is definitely worth taking a look at.  There is a learning curve involved, but if you go through the Getting Started Tutorial (it is a few hours long) you will know learn enough about the basic features of the Statechart Module to get useful work done.  If you have any questions or comments - please post them and we will do our best to answer.

Hi Christy!

Would it be a possible to put together a tutorial that did NOT assume the reader is familiar with UML?

It is all of the UML terminology used in the tutorial that prompted me to forget about the State Chart Module and by the book "An Introduction to UML..." so I could understand what the tutorial was telling me.

Also.... at least as far as I got...

The tutorial had a lot of "do this then do this..." but did not explain what all of the steps accomplished.

I plan to return to the State Chart after I finish the "Introduction to UML..." book starting on about the 21st of this month.

"State Cahrt for Dummies" is waht I really need.

I agree whole heartedly with Ben.  I went through the tutorial but found myself unable to do anything on my own, meaning that I can follow directions but didnt actually learn how to use the state chart module.  I agree that once I know how to use it that it will be a powerful tool but I too need something along the lines of a State Chart for Dummies.  Has anyone else had similar or different experience?

Cheers!

Have you checked out the statechart page?  There is a webcast there that may be helpful.  Also, there is a link to a page called Introduction to Statecharts that might contain some of the information you are looking for.  Additionally, we are going to be having a virtual user group presentation on Statechart basics that will give more information and also provide opportunity to ask more questions.  I will post the details on that as soon as I find out when it will be.  I will also forward your request to our documentation developer to see if we can do a better job describing development with Statecharts.

Please let me know if I can answer any questions that you have.

-Christy
