Hi labView 8.2,
welcome to LabView and to the Forum. Smiley Happy
My tip is to use labview as often as you can, and try to understand the functions. Look at examples and try to understand them. Start to work for your project and if you have questions search the forum for an answer. Use the online help to understand the functions.
Don´t start with the use of local and global variables. Smiley Happy The wire is your friend. Smiley Wink

Your ability to write the program beforehand depends on the complexity of the program and on how much it depends on external conditions which you may or may not be able to simulate.

To learn about LabVIEW, I suggest you start by looking at some of these tutorials.

Mike & tst have provided good suggestions.

This forum is a great place to learn.  Have a look at the Breakpoint Forum under Rube Goldberg..  There's a lot of "inside" information there... and it is also a good place for a few laughts.

It is here:  http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=BreakPoint&thread.id=2634

Did you already have a project in mind for your CRIO?

Hi LabVIEW 8.2,

I also want to welcome you to the discussion forums. All of the other posters had great advice to getting started with LabVIEW before your cRIO hardware arrives. I wanted to add that once the hardware does arrive I strongly recommend that you look through the following tutorials to help get you off the ground:

Also feel free to search through the NI Developer Zone further (where these tutorials are located), there is a large knowledge base available. Thanks and have a great day!

Cheers,
