TC-2190 what can it be used with?

I have a TC-2190 and it seems worthless. Is it true it will not work with any pci or any pcmcia card? What is it supposed to be used with?

Seems like another usless NI product.

The TC-2190 adapter consists of a shielded box with 14 miniconnectors

that you can use to connect the thermocouples to the NI 435

X for USB,

PXI, and PCI. This adapter has two 68-pin connectors—one on the front

and one on the rear. You can use either of the two connectors to connect the

TC-2190 to the NI 435

X using an SH6868 shielded cable (recommended)

or an R6868 ribbon cable. You can also access the eight digital I/O lines

and the digital ground of the NI 435

X using the spring terminal blocks.

This adapter is designed specifically for ease of use with thermocouples.

It features isothermal construction to minimize the temperature gradients

across the thermocouple junctions and a high-accuracy thermistor

cold-junction temperature sensor.

The TC-2190 connects to all the digital I/O lines on the NI 435

X and all but

two analog input channels (CH)—CH0 is dedicated to the cold-junction

sensor and CH1 is dedicated to auto-zeroing circuitry. Refer to the

for further details on the cold-junction sensor and

auto-zeroing circuitry.

Yes its a card would have sufficed. Now i just have to find out what machine it is physically in.

Sorry Vr6, can't help you there. But at least with the manual on hand you surely now know it can exist as a PCI card, a PXI card, or a USB device.

Hi Vr6-

The TC-2190 is a "dumb" terminal block for use with any 68-pin DAQ device.  It is not true that it will not work with PCI and PCMCIA devices; in fact it will work with almost any DAQ devices with a 68-pin mass termination connector including M Series and E Series devices.  The biggest advantage of the TC-2190 is that it features built-in Cold-Junction Compensation (CJC) hardware and convenient miniconnectors for easy interface to any thermocouple.  So, I would say it's far from being useless, but I guess that is a matter of perspective.

Problem: I have a TC-2190 that I use with an NI 435x device. I want to know if I can use the TC-2190 with my E Series device.

Solution: The TC-2190 was built specifically for use with NI-435x devices. If the pinouts of the E Series and NI 435x devices were identical, you could use the TC-2190 with an E Series device, but they are slightly different. You can, however, use the TC-2190 with an E Series device for channels 0 through 3. Channels 0 through 3 of 68-pin E Series devices correspond to channels 0 thru 3 of NI 435x devices. Therefore, if you need only four thermocouple inputs you could connect the TC-2190 to an E Series device and use channels 0 thru 3.

Hi Vr6-

While you won't be able to access all channels, the KB you posted clearly states that the TC-2190 will work with the multifunction devices I suggested.  Because you seemed to have no idea what a 435X device was, I assumed you didn't have one and might have some of those other devices laying around in your lab.  Regardless, the 435X devices are the optimal solution, but an E- or M Series device will work with abbreviated functionality.

Can i use the TC-2190 with its 435X PCI board using the DAQ MX driver?

AKA i just recieved an M series board, and i would like to use the M series board and the 435X with the TC2190 at the same time in one VI.

Can this be done?
