Hi CFitz,

you should switch the display mode of the array elements to "Hex display" to input hex numbers.

And you should select a COM port.

Closing a port after opening it is common behaviour. But don't close it immediatly after writing to the port as that may clear the write buffer before the data gets send…

Best regards,
GerdW

Thank you both so much. It's finally working. I'm going to leave a copy of the basic command here so anyone else with this problem can use it.

Hi CFitz,

there still is no error handling and the port remains open…

You don't need to wire the "8" constant as that's the default value for "databits"!

Best regards,
GerdW

Hi,

Could you please help me to set my servo as a COM port. I connect through the usb connection but I have seen that people manage to connect it as an emulated COM port. I am not sure how to do this but based on your post it seems that you have done it:

"I have the servo set to act as a COM port and MAX sees that port but it get an error whenever I send commands and MAX says that it can not access the device using VISA"

Thank you for any help you may provide.

Stuleo,

Connect the stepper motor to your PC and then bring up Device Manager.

Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers you should see APT USB Device.image.png

Right Click>Properties>Advanced and then check the box labeled "Load VCP" (Virtual Com Port) and hit OK.image.png

Power cycle the controller and it should reinstall under the Ports (COM & LPT) sub-menu in Device Manager.

Thank you very much for your reply! I had seen the node in the device manager before but it didn't cross my mind that this was for a virtual com port. When I ticked this I had some notifications that I need to restart the computer in order to make it work. When I restarted my computer, it was locked and the BitLocker was asking for a recovery key. Anyway, I managed to unlock it but now when I connect the device and I tick this box it keeps showing under the USB controllers and not in the COM port node of the device manager..Do you have any other suggestions on this perhaps? I can't see it as a COM port either at the NI-MAX application which I guess is what I want to achieve in order for VISA to be able to work with this device.

EDIT: I did again what you suggested and now it shows in both the USB and the COM ports. NI-MAX is also able to detect it. Thank you. Hopefully I will manage to make it work with VISA
