If you want to know how any of these work, open the context help (CTRL+H) and hover over a function.  This shows the functions help and how it works.  Some functions will also have a link to show more detailed help, where examples can be found.  Otherwise you can search for examples in the Help >> Find Examples on many of these functions.  If you are asking about TDMS specifically there is lots to learn, one of them being a presentation I did on TDMS at NI Week.
