Target computer has 7.1 Run Time Engine and my EXE, now it wants VISA also?

I would have no problem sticking to the VISA stuff if it all worked as well as the old stuff. I can not get my ADC to work with VISA, and it's a piece of cake with the old VI's.

As long as it is connected to the serial port, same as before, it should work.

From previous discussion threads, people had to install delay between calls (because VISA is faster than the old driver) to allow proper device respone.
Others had issues with the terminating character (but it had to be converted properly from version 6 in you case)

You may want to elaborate more on what is exactly not working, and many LabViewer's of this forum would be willing to help

My main reason for not using VISA is because of the licensing rules involving the distribution of NI-VISA.

Section 12) B. of the NI standard license agreement describes the requirements for distributing applications that utilize, call or otherwise access driver interface software such as NI-VISA. The requirements are that
i) you verify that each recipient has a valid license of NI-VISA or ii) contact NI to obtain authorization to provide those users with a valid license of NI-VISA.

Most users will be covered by clause 12) B. i) above. You are allowed to distribute NI-VISA when your application uses NI-VISA to control or communicate with NI hardware in the target system. However, for applications that utilize computer buses such as the serial
port, the LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI runtime engines include 10 licenses for the NI-VISA runtime. This means that for each application you develop that uses Serial communication, you can distribute that application along with the NI-VISA runtime to 10 users without incurring additional licensing fees and without needing additional written authorization from NI.

I would like to see a comment by NI support engineers about that, given that NI-VISA download is free from NI web site

Now this is getting silly. I regret updating. Your method of copying the old files into LV 7 is looking pretty good. Or, roll back to 6.0.2 when developing com port apps.
