I was surprised to hear that worked as well.  Sometimes I use conductive epoxy to secure my TCs to heatsinks or metal parts and often there's a path to ground which shorts them out, sometimes not.  It depends on your test setup's grounding.  Be aware that  any wiring changes to your system may short your TCs at some point in the future though.
