Transferring LabView Software to new PC

Hi all,

We've recently started using LabView in our assembly equipment. The PC on the line is not compatible with our Data Collection so it must be changed to an HP computer. How do I go about transferring my LabView License to the new computer?

Thanks,

Chris

If this is a modern LabVIEW install that uses the NI License Manager you can just use that to de-activate the license on the old PC and then use it again to activate it on the new one.

Deactivating and Transferring a Product - NI License Manager 4.5, 4.6, 4.7 Manual - National Instrum...

If it's an older version I think you can just un-install the old stuff, install it on the new PC and put in your serial number (or update to the License manager) to re-activate.  I would contact NI first to get help going through the process so you don't end up looking like you're using one license on multiple PCs though.

A couple things here...

  1. I don't understand how the PC brand could make any difference in compatibility with any type of DAQ equipment or third party instruments... Why would it work in an HP but not a Dell computer? That makes no logical sense at all
  2. Don't install the full LabVIEW development environment on the computers that run production ATE equipment. All that should need your compiled executable and any required runtime libraries (LabVEW Runtime, NI-VISA runtime, ect.)
  3.  Install the development environment on the computer you use to develop code.
  4. If you have to troubleshoot your code on a deployed ATE you can install the LabVIEW development on the ATE system and run it in "Evaluation mode". That's what NI told me to do when they started to tie licensing to an individual computer using a UID. You get like a month in evaluation mode and that can be extended...
