Transparent graphic into LabVIEW

According to NI's knowledgebase, the way to import transparent
graphics into LabVIEW is via WMF or EMF files (on NT/98/95).

But does this work for WMF with vector graphic only, or does this apply
to WMF with bitmapped graphic and transparent background also ?
WMF covers both vector and raster graphics as far as I can see.

I have tried to import bitmapped GIF files with transparent background
into LabVIEW, but this GIF89s standard is not implemented in LabVIEW,
so thats not much of a success. It seems LabVIEW only understands the
GIF87a standard, which does not cover transparancy.

So, in short, is it possible to import r
aster (bitmapped) graphic
with transparancy into LabVIEW at all ?

Martin,

I don't know anything about compatible formats, and the like, but as far as importing graphics with transparencies in them, I have always used Microsoft Powerpoint to do this. It is a simple solution if you have it.

Hope this helps.

Good luck

Could you give me some more details here,
so I could try to reproduce your method ?
An example file would be very nice..

That link is broken. Can you please describe it briefly? I have achieved transparent images in powerpoint but the transparency is lost when I copy-paste them over into LabVIEW. Thanks!

Does your lack of transparency change as you expand or decrease the image size? I've had strange things happening with wmf imports, at first the background does appear transparent but when I increase it to the size I need, the the background turns white. It seems to happen when the size goes over 820 x 620 I ended up having to use a different colour scheme than the one I wanted!!

Nope, the background is always white when I paste the picture into LabVIEW. I actually got a few grouped boxes, made in pp, transferred with preserved tranparency but still no success with the imported (partly transparent) gif. What colour scheme do you mean and what should I change it to?
Also, how do I paste pictures into LabVIEW at proper size? Now, I always have to resize them after I paste them. Cheers.

You don't mention which version of LV you are using. LV6.1 supports
importing gifs, pngs, etc. Unfortunately, this sort of thing doesn't
work so well through the clipboard. Try to save the graphics first,
then use Import in LV followed by paste.
