Trying to use OME-PIO-D48 PCI card to communicate with Labview. Any suggestion?

Hi,

I have been trying to communicate with OME-PIO-D48 (OMEGA PCI card) using Labview 8.2.  Although under my device manager I see the card as DAQ card, I can not locate when I run the Measurement and Automation Software of NI.  I also tried to make new device in there, however, I could not see any place to describe the PCI card I have.  I wonder is it possible to use this DAQ PCI card in Labview?

Measurement and Automation Explorer is a utility program for NI cards only. According to this, Omega supplies LabVIEW drivers for it.

Hi Olcay,

Thanks for contacting National Instruments. Dennis is correct, Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) is a program for National Instruments hardware only. As such, even when you install the OMEGA supplied drivers, your card will not be visible in MAX.

The driver that is provided by OMEGA will be a library of VIs that you can open in LabVIEW. These VIs will allow you to communicate with and control your PCI card.

Hi Mallori,

I think I have found that library files you mentioned.  I was wondering for my DAQ can I edit these library files?  Let me put it this way.  I have a test machine in which I am trying to get data.  PCI card is hooked up to this machine.  What would be the best way to get the readings from this test machine?

Hi Olcay,

I am not familiar with the specific drivers included with your OMEGA PCI card. However, it should contain a VI that you can use to read data from your PCI DAQ card. You will need to look for VIs that have read or data acquisition functions. As long as OMEGA has not locked or password protected the VIs, you will most likely be able to edit them if they do not function to your satisfaction.

Upon driver installation, third party instrument drivers are typically placed in the instr.lib folder of the latest version of LabVIEW on your computer. This can be accessed from LabVIEW’s block diagram by right clicking to open the Functions Palette>> selecting Instrument I/O>> Instr Drivers>> then your device.
