On my old laptop I had a printer port. I was writing a digatal word to the port.It work find.
My new lap top does not have a printer port.So I wanted to use a USB to printer port adaptor.
I bought the adaptor and I can't seem to comunicate with the printer port via USB.

What adapter did you buy?
Does the port show up in the Windows Device Manager after you connect the adapter?
If it does, does it still have the same name (like LPT1) as it did on your old laptop?
Is there any specific example you can provide which ran on your old laptop that is not running on your current configuration?

Thanks for the reply.

I'm using the parallel read write in lab examples.

The adaport I got showed up as printer support in windows device manager.

I believe I need to find an adaptor that has data paths for an eight bit word.

Once I find this and it shows up in windows device manager and automation explorer.

I should be able to select it as a visa resource.

Thanks

For you to use it in VISA, it needs to show up in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) as a VISA resource.  What version of VISA are you using?

Do you need to be communicating with a printer port?  Since you're sending digital data, you could use a digital board to send this information.  You could easily use a USB digital board like this one
