USB4 to PCIe adapter

Hi All,

I started to use NI PCIe card very seldom and plan to upgrade my desktop.

I found that there are USB4 to PCIe adapters on the market, for example, DFRobot LattePanda ASM2464PD Thunderbolt 4 Graphics Card Expansion Dock Module (https://wiki.dfrobot.com/dfr1168/#tech_specs).

Did anyone try to use NI PCIe card with laptop and such adapter?

I believe you need to use a Thunderbolt connection. I do not know if USB4 is the same as thunderbolt. I have used external PCI cards in an TB enclosure; it was a frame grabber for a camera. They work fine once configured correctly.

NI outright doesn't warrant the functionality of their cards with third-party extenders or protocol converters.

For any bus, PCIe or Thunderbolt3, NI recommends using only what comes with the motherboard, not any external card.

Not exactly answering the topic, I will mention something that worked in the past.

I used this box in the past ( 2016+ )  :

Connected to one of the high performance Lenovo Thinkpad range P50, P51, P70, P71.

This worked both for PCI boards as well as ( single lane ) PCIe boards.

The mentioned laptops were the last and best ExpressCard supporting laptops. See this :

Today there are several boxes like the shown from other suppliers with varying features.

Some with Thunderbolt instead of ExpressCard. I don't know if they work.
