Update reference to non labview files in a project

The question is that i have non Labview files in my project (like *.doc; *.txt; *.dsn; *.ico; ...) and i have moved the directory structure in the disk where the files are. So how can i update the project references to the new location of the files? Or can i do some other thing before move the files in the disk?

(removing the files and adding again is very unuseful because the files are used in a lot of build specifications and then i need to add them again and configure all)

Hi Idilio,

When you move a file on windows.

You need reassign the new location on LV project by make a right click on your file and select explore. (or remove and add again the file)

It's the only to reassign the new location.

But when i make a right click on the file and select explore it goes to the Windows explorer, and after that what i should do to reassign the actual file to the project file?

You should choose the file on the new location, and add the file on your project. After you can delete the file with the bad reference.

But this is the same as the remove and add option, and this don't solve the problem. If i use this files in builds configurantions, when i remove the file i loss that configurantion, and for a big number of files is Painful....

When you ha a project, you need use sub-directory for :

_ SubVI

_ File for initialisation

_documentation file (*.txt, *.html, or other)

_ help file

_ And other for each document.

When you have this you can select all file in *.txt format, and use drag and drop into you project for add new file.

With this structure for a project, it's more easy to add diferent file on you project.

But we haven't other solution.

I don't need to add files!

I need to update files!

For Labview files this option is done by doing a rename!

Yes, for for a VI this option is possible by a rename, but for an another file it's not possible.

I can suggest to R&D, add this option for a new version of LabVIEW.

Ok

It will help a lot if they create that option.

Thanks Christophe
