Can I use NI Max on my local computer to view the "system" of a different Windows PC that is not a real time target?
In NI Max there is a "Remote Systems" branch in the tree. From what I understand this is for real time targets, not for a Windows PC with NI Max installed. If you right click on My System in the left hand tree, and click Web Configuration.
This pops up your web browser with the following url: http://localhost:3582/#Home
If I change localhost to the ip address of my other computer I get the following: "remote system configuration may not be enabled/..."
I can't seem to find anything about "remote system configuration". Is "remote system configuration" an NI Max Setting, LabVIEW setting or a Windows setting? Does this apply only to real time targets like the "Remote Systems" branch?

I'm trying to do the same thing. I was hoping to develop a tool for our Equipment Managers that would allow them to check that the correct hardware was installed at each test station and generate a report with serial numbers, etc. to ensure no one was swapping instruments around and everything was calibrated. Being able to do this from their offices or even have some programs that run every morning to confirm station configurations would be a big help for them.
I can now see two other test PCs but I can't see their hardware. Under Devices and Interfaces it shows a VISA Error.
I'm still not sure if this simply can't be done with NI-MAX or I have a firewall/network/IT issue. I will post back if I have any new info...
EDIT: I tried the "Troubleshoot Remote System Directory" function and it only had options for PXI/RIO systems so you may be right that this is only for real-time systems. I'm sure that there are other ways to achieve the goal but I was really hoping the ability was just built-in to NI-MAX. I will keep on looking for a solution.
