Using a Non-NI DAQ card

Hi all,

Wanted to get some feedback before starting a new project.  I've got a program I need to make thats going to be taking tons of data points used in vibration testing.  Problem is, the DAQ card that has been selected for me to use, is not a NI product.

I've done plenty of DAQ programs, but they've always been with NI hardware.  Either premade VI's were included, or I just used the DAQ assistant.  I suppose my question is how much different is this going to be using non-ni hardware?

Specifically, were looking at  the "DI-720 Series Data Acquisition System"

Would the daq assist still be how I acquire data?  Is labview integration easy to use with non-ni hardware?  Do I need any special software, libraries, etc. in order to be able to use this hardware?

Thanks much!

You won't be able to use any of the NI software with a non-NI DAQ board. That includes MAX and the DAQ Assistant. The Dataq web site has some information that you should look at. It has an ActiveX library that you would use in LabVIEW. It also says that there are some example LabVIEW programs.

Hi

a quick hit on there home site revealed that you can use their free bundled software

but it is restricted to 16 channels and a data throughput of 240 HZ whilst writing to disk

If you go to the "Support" section of the DataQ website, they have free ActiveX and LabView drivers for the DI-7XX series.  You won't be able to use the DAQ Assistant, but it should be straight forward to generate a standard LV program to aquire the data.
