Using the report generation toolkit, how do I make a bar graph verticle instead of horizontle?

The attached vi is similar to what I am using, and it produces an Excel bar chart. I would really like to create the same chart, only vertically instead of horizontly. I have tried all kinds of things that don't work. Is there a way to do this that does work. I want a result similar to rotating the produced chart 90 degrees CCW.

Thank you!

you want to use a xy-graph.

you can right click the plot legend to make a bar graph vertical.

Thank you for the reply, but I am having trouble understanding what you mean. When the report generation toolkit inserts a graph into Excel, it does it as a picture, so you can't right click on the legend. I tried every XY option that the vi allowed, and I just get a line. I really need the bar graph, per request of the boss I am creating this application for. I am using LabVIEW 8.6. I have tried tranposing the 2D data array, and switching the positions of everything. It is beginning to look like this is just not possible. If I am missing something you told me, could you please clarify it? Thank You!

It might be, but it so small I can't see what you set the invoke nodes to. I saved it to my desktop to blow it up, and it got so blurry I couldn't read it. Even though I can't see exactly what you did, I am going to try things based on what I can see. Can you please make it a little larger? I think you are onto something! Thank You!

I tried and tried, but I can't see what you did. I tried printing it, magnefying it, and bumbling around with different kinds of references. What type of reference did you use? I do see that they are property nodes rather than invoke nodes, but I just can't see what they do. What was the activity string is actual the name of the chart. Can I feed that string into whatever it is that is there now? Please make this bigger, or attach the altered vi. I am very anxious to try this out! Thank you!

Steve,

Do you have LV 2009?  If so, you can drag and drop that image to your block diagram.  It is a VI snippet that will create the code for you from that image.

HOWEVER, Only if it worked properly.

Andy,

How did you create that image?  It sure looks like a VI snippet (though scaled very small), but it doesn't behave like one.  If you drop that image on a block diagram, all you get is a bitmap image that is as small as it appears in the web browser.  No code.

Alas, here at work I am using LabVIEW 8.6. I am test driving LabVIEW 2009 on my home computer. It is a 64 bit system running Windows 7, so the changes I make at home can't be brought back to work. However, I can try to copy the png file at home to a block diagram and see what pops up, and write the same code here at work. I didn't know you could do that. At some point I will upgrade LabVIEW here at work to LabVIEW 2009, but I need to make sure all the third party drivers I am using will be able to make the jump. I have many programs deployed here, and have automated an entire department via database communication and report generation. LabVIEW is a truly excellent tool!

Hey all,

It was a VI Snippet from LV2009, however, when I embedded the image, I changed the size of the image which somehow disabled the snippet functionality. I will report this behavior back to the department for further investigation.

Here it is again!

Awesome! I will try to duplicate it here in LabVIEW 8.6, but I can hardly wait to get home to drag it into LabVIEW 2009. Thank you very very much!
