Are you using the right frequency? Try this:

middlec

That should be middle C.

Name that tune.  Not enough time to tweak it (and my pitch is terrible), but I think it is recognizable.

Note this works just fine for me on LV8.2.1 with XP or Vista.  Be sure to disable the system beep.

Now all we need is a reentrant beep.vi so we can do polyphonics. Smiley Very Happy

The mystery tune is pretty easy for those of us that went to HS in the 70s - nice job.

Below is a simple alarm vi that toggles between the system alert and the synchronous beep modes. I think the combination makes a reasonably good alarm sound. If you control the on/off with a queue, you can set up a very simple application wide alarm.

Does your computer beep when you boot it up? I had a machine in which the internal speakers were disconnected, so I got no sound in that machine.

Re: VI of the Day (9/4/2009)

Well... I've not tried the VI on my laptop. I'm not sure of how laptops are built inside. Usually the desktop CPUs are connected to a small speaker internally, which gives the beep...

Come to think of it, I don't recall my laptop beeping during boot up either, which means that beep.vi shouldn't work on it too, if my hunch is correct. I'll confirm and get back to you.

Sounds good I would like to mess with the beep.vi but never have had the opportunity so I normally use the lvsound.llb
