Thanks, I'm happy with my vi. It won't work on a Windows platform, and I need to support both platforms for people who use our instruments. I'm relatively new to LabView and I don't have anywhere else to go to learn.

I don't get an error number, the two subvi's simply won't connect as the same data type. I connect them and the Run arrow turns broken and grey "type mismatch". Is there a simple way to change the type that I just don't know?

It works on my windows platform as far as the VISA Configure Serial Port is concerned. You really need to provide details on what exactly does not work. You really need to wire up an error indicator instead of ignoring whatever errors are occuring.
Edit: When I opened your VI, the VI was broken because you had a wire segment. I would have assumed you had clicked on the run arrow to get a description of the error. At the very least, a CTRL-B would have removed the segment. This error has nothing to do with the VISA functions.
