Cool, I'm glad you got it working, and thanks for posting the information on what got it working. The resource names shouldn't have changed. If you want to verify, can you try out the "Basic Serial Read and Write.vi" in Help->Find Examples->Tab(Search)->Search("Serial"). This example should be able to work with the resource name Com1.

Neal (or anyone),

I'm having the same issue, I think.  How did you go about getting the COMn port names to change to ASRLn::INSTR in the VISA Resource Name drop-down box?  Was it by right-clicking on the box and selecting I/O Name Filtering and turning off aliases?  Or did you just manually type the word "ASRLn::INSTR" in the Resource Name box (which doesn't sound like it would work but I'm not sure)?

Yes, manually typing the explicit VISA resource name (as opposed to the alias) will work the same way.
