Version 8.2 Vs Version 7.1

Hi,

I bought to your compagny the software LabView version 8.2.1 last month and I have a problem...  Another lab’s form Toronto did for us a program to install on LabView, but the program doesn’t work.  I received a warning  that say:

LabVIEW: VI I not loadable

In a built application, this error might occur because the IV being loaded was last compiled for a different OS, in which case you must save the VI on the current platform.  The error also might occur if the VI is a polymorphic VI, which cannot be loaded in the LabVIEW Run-time engine.  You must load an instance of the polymorphic VI instead of the polymorphic VI itself.

An error occurred loading VI ‘Command Calculate.VI’

LabView load error code 11: VI version 7.1 cannot be convert to the current LabView 8.2.1 because it has not block diagram.

We buy the software ONLY to run this program, so I really need to exchange version 8.2 for version 7.1.  I didn’t install completely the software you have sent to us, I just install the evaluation program. Can you suggest to me a solution?  I used Windows Vista to install it, if I use Windows XP can it work ?

Best regards

What was the exact nature of the program you bought? The messages refer to a built application. In other words, an exe file. If it's an exe, there would be no reason for you to buy LabVIEW at all. You would just have to install the correct run-time engine and that should have been provided by the vendor. What is the file extension and how are you trying to run it?

If the program you bought was a set of functions to incorporate into your own LabVIEW program, the files will have either a .vi or .llb extension. If that's the case, then you should go back to the vendor and tell them to provide you with an 8.2.1 version or even better, a set of files that do not have the block diagram removed. Personally, I won't deal with vendors that remove block diagrams. Doing a password protected block diagram (the code portion of LabVIEW), provides secutrity and enables the files to be used with newer versions of LabVIEW.

As far as getting a 7.1 version of LabVIEW, I'm not sure how much success you will have. NI stopped selling it a few years ago. You might want to contact your local sales engineer to see what your options are. If you do manage to somehow get 7.1, you'll also probably need to change the OS. The first version of LabVIEW that supports Vista is 8.2.1.
