Vi Logger Lite freezes up when attempting to view historical data from a task

I'm using an install of VI Logger Lite 2.0.0, and in the last two days, whenever I attempt to view the summary or historical data from a task, VI Logger Lite will either lock up.  What could be the cause of / solution to this prediciment.  I've also noticed that when the lock up occurs there will be 2 VI Logger Lite processes running on the system, but neither will be using up a sizable portion of the CPU or RAM.  One process looked to be nominal, the other using appoximately 128 megs of RAM.

The VI Logger task historical view has been running relatively slowly for the past month.  After a system defrag, it seemed to speed up, but over the course of the last week, its slowed down again, eventually hitting this point.  Its a concern as my users are worried that this may happen in the middle of a data collection study with live subjects that can't simply be put on hold for 5-10 minutes.

Thanks for the help,
Wayne

Hi Wayne,

Thank you for posting to the NI forums.

It’d be difficult to determine the cause of this behavior, especially since it is somewhat intermittent.  There is a Knowledge Base entry that addresses the file size and memory usage of historical data logging in VI Logger.  There is an option (although it may not be available for the Lite edition) that allows you to compact the data.  128 MB of RAM usage sounds extremely high, so this is probably not expected behavior.  Is the same amount of RAM used when the data is being logged as expected

What version of DAQmx do you have installed?  A reinstallation of the driver can often fix these types of problems.

Also, have you considered using Signal Express?  A Lite Edition of this software installs for free with our latest DAQmx driver (version 8.6).  It is similar to VI Logger in that it is a menu-driven data acquisition and file logging utility.

Please post back if you have any further information about the problem or the status of your system after going through the aforementioned troubleshooting steps.

Best regards,
